POETRY
by Jo Mary Hall
Welcome to my poetry corner. I started writing when I was a teenager to ease my mind. I write to feed my creativity and nuture my spirit.
I'm forever in awe of poets such as wordsmith, songwriter and presenter Pam Ayres, MBE.
FRIENDSHIP
SHE KNOWS ME
Her eyes see my plight
and our friendship conquers hopelessness.
I wonder at the magnitude of our support
and wonder why our souls seems so familiar.
In her company fear cannot grip me
Our friendship holds me.
Friendship reminds me to be kind
I see the kindness in eyes that melts my pain.
We stand together never beaten, never alone, we hold onto branches to support each other.
Our friendship conquers hopelessness.
MOTHER AND SON
Today I feel the mothers bond weakening,
I know it's time for you to grow by yourself.
No more side-by-side cooking
No more holding hands and chasing flying kites.
I gave you love, steadiness, and calm
You give it ten times over to your loved one and I wonder,
Did I do a good job? Does he know how much I miss him?
Does he remember every walk to school we made together? Every pogo stick trip!
Every skateboard ride, every cycle and scooter fly-by?
Those were the best days of my life, for today I cry a bit with joy and sadness, as I see you reach for the sky.
I'm proud of who you have become and although our time together dwindles, I know it time to let you grow and go.
Good bye little one my work is done.
I smile.
LOOK AT THEM AGAIN
The person in front of me is not just the denim and cloth.
The person in front of me is made of light which ripples and vibrates.
A beautiful soul, yet there is a human condition that wants to judge and measure, categorise and internalise the person in front of me.
Who taught me to do this? Why did I get taught to do this! I hate it!
Instead I take a breathe, I think before I speak and then I speak or perhaps I smile and lend a hand. Life is hard enough without the conditioning to judge others.
I choose to change, to change my mind, to be different from those who taught me.
